As part of the exhibition FASHIONED FROM NATURE opening at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London on the 21st April, Carlos Jimenez presents a new film commission, A STORY FROM LIVING WITH LESS.
FASHIONED FROM NATURE will show you the history of fabrics and fashion materials, the fashion industry, the dedicated campaigners fighting against fashion’s environmental impact, and contemporary designs that merge high fashion and sustainability.
A STORY FROM LIVING WITHLESS is part of the interactive installation from the Centre for Sustainable Fashion (CSF) ‘Fashion Futures 2030’ which immerses you in the fashion world of the future. It shows you scenarios based on your choices to get you thinking about your own fashion choices.
The short film work explores the relationship that fashion and nature could hold in a dystopian future, where materials, textures, representation, and memories are juxtaposed with a poem written by poet and playwriter Cecilia Knapp. The film, a collaboration with menswear designer Bianca Saunders, Art critic and performer Sarah Kent and artist Jamila Johnson-Small, gravitates between documentary and fiction where the characters play fictional versions of themselves in a journey through time. From present to future, this film is a poetical piece of a potential scenario where the all the cast had to adapt to their reality.
