Flamenco Festival London 2018
14 Feb - 25 Feb|
To mark its 15th anniversary, the Flamenco Festival takes over the Saddler’s Wells Theatre with a distinguished program ranging from flamenco legends to newcomers that are stepping hard in the scene. This year’s festival searches for more than the classical picture of the Spanish performers, inviting innovative figures that are being widely acclaimed, reclaiming women’s stories and rediscovering forgotten spirits. And to make sure that diversity is at the core of this festival, the opening show will be including a revered singer, two rising stars and a former principal dancer, in a performance called Tempo of Light.
Names like Carmen Linares, María Pagés, Arcángel and Israel Galván, among others, will be some of the highlights of this year’s edition. Within these relevant names is legendary flamenco artist La Chana, who makes a rare appearance at this year’s Gala Flamenca. Her style is a testament to the strength and passion of this art form, reclaiming the femininity of this genre with the help of the documentary based on her figure.
