Flamenco Festival London
15 Feb - 26 Feb|
Flamenco Festival is back to London for its 14th edition at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre. This Festival, one of the city’s most important cultural events, will be full of outstating performances delivered by some of the top Spanish artists such as Israel Galván, Eva Yervabuena, or Santiago Lara. Emerging companies will be represented as well by Compañía Manuel Liñán and Compañía Mercedes Ruíz.
Multi-award-winning flamenco star Israel Galvan show will open the Festival on Wednesday 15th followed by the extraordinary performances of Eva Yerbabuena, Compañía Manuel Liñán, Compañía Mercedes Ruíz, Gala Flamenca, and Santiago Lara on the following days on the following days.
Eva Yerbabuena, who has been recognised as one of Spain’s leading dancers, will be accompanied by four dancers and her critically acclaimed ensemble of musicians, including African guest singer Alana Sinkëy. Emerging talent Compañía Manuel Liñán and Compañía Mercedes Ruíz have already show high quality works. According to the Financial Times she “raised the temperature, and spoke about flamenco with a commanding truth and virtuosity”. The Financial Times also publishes that “Liñán’s gift is transcendental. He awakens rhythms, images, wildest possibilities of dance, and banishes the predictabilities of sitting in a theatre watching carefully staged flamenco”.
Gala Flamenca is one of the highlights of each year’s Flamenco Festival, featuring some of the most exciting figures on the flamenco scene: the legendary Gypsy dancer Juana Amaya “is a true goddess of the dance” (ABC), Olga Pericet’s “towering presence and fierce energy” (The Guardian), virtuosic Jesús Carmona, and the shining voice of Rocío Márquez. Rising star Patricia Guerrero “an exceptionally skilled artist” (Diario de Sevilla) represents the future of flamenco dance.
Santiago Lara concert is going to be part of part of Instituto Cervantes’ and ILAMS’ Guitarrísimo series, co-produced by the London Flamenco Festival.
