Paco Peña & Friends
16 Apr 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm|
Queen Elizabeth Hall|
Paco Peña is regarded as one of the world’s foremost traditional flamenco players. He returns to Queen Elizabeth Hall for an evening of mellifluous rhythms, featuring special guest soprano Auxiliadora Toledano.
The performance for this event is divided in two halves. The first part of the performance is a solo recital that partially reflects Peña’s initial concerts at Queen Elizabeth Hall in the 1970s, where his then-newly formed flamenco company presented its first-ever show.
In the second half of the evening, guitarists Rafael Montilla and José Luis Fernández join Peña on stage to play flamenco arrangements for three guitars, with the aim of adding a further dimension to the potential of the Spanish, or flamenco, guitar.
Finally, Spanish soprano Auxiliadora Toledano, who has shared the stage with artists such as Plácido Domingo and conductors such as Sir Neville Marriner and Emmanuel Villaume, joins to perform the famous ‘Siete canciones populares españolas’ (‘Seven Spanish Folksongs’) by Manuel de Falla, plus a selection of songs by Spanish playwright and poet Federico García Lorca.
