Republica is an energetic and sexy lament for the untold story of the Spanish Revolution. It is a show about the politics of rhythm, a radical reclaiming of history as told by a stripper, a flamenco dancer and a punk guitarist. Inspired by the historical events that immediately precede the Spanish Civil War, it investigates the ideals of The Second Republic (1931-1936), in a time when the limitless fantasies of the future and the borders of tradition met. With the rise of divisive politics across the world, Republica aims to break the pact of forgetting. Delivered in English and Spanish, REPUBLICA is a conversation between the past and the present and a performance on the politics of rhythm.
The show is produced and presented by Juan Carlos Otero, Keir Cooper and Lola Rueda, in collaboration with Emma Frankland as a part of the 2018 edition of the Voila Festival. London audiences will be able to see this for the first time in the city throughout the month of November. For more information, head to the festival’s website.
