Silk Road by Agudo Dance Company
4 May - 5 May|
Silk Road is a celebration of diverse cultures and dances, a fascinating and vibrant exploration through dance of rituals that took place along this ancient trade route across Asia, revealing the lesser-known connection between classical Indian dance and Flamenco.
Choreographer and performer Jose Agudo launches his company with Silk Road, a collaboration with classical Indian dancer Mavin Khoo, where images of pilgrims, monks, traders and urban dwellers create a universal, yet personal story of East meets West in the 21st century.
José has performed with, among others, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance and Ballet de Marseille, and has collaborated with Akram Khan Company since 2011 on DESH, the 2012 London Olympic Games opening ceremony, iTMOI, TOROBAKA and Chotto Desh.
Co-commissioned by Sadler’s Wells London, ZfinMalta, DanceEast, Dance4, Akademi. Supported by Arts Council England (TBC), Impulstanz Vienna, Stratford Circus Arts Centre.
Silk Road preview, Friday 28 Apr, 7.30pm at the Jerwood DanceHouse, Foundry Lane, Ipswich, IP4 1DW
