Spanish talent at the PROMS 2017
19 Aug - 22 Aug|
Royal Albert Hall|
The world’s greatest classical music event continues until 9 September 2017. After the concert conducted by the Maestro Mena, this August we’ll have the chance to see once again Spanish talent at the Royal Albert Hall, with the Orfeó Català and Javier Perianes.
Gurrelieder is Schoenberg’s Tristan and Isolde, an opulent, late-Romantic giant. The LSO and Sir Simon Rattle are joined by an outstanding line-up of soloists, including soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek and tenor Simon O’Neill as lovers Tove and Waldemar.
Saturday 19 Aug, 7:30pm
Soloist Javier Perianes performs Saint-Saëns’s Second Piano Concerto. This year’s cycle of Elgar symphonies concludes with the unfinished Third Symphony. Elaborated and completed by composer Anthony Payne from the sketches Elgar left at his death, the music heard here is as much Payne as it is Elgar, a symphony of chivalric swagger and surging power that Payne himself has described as ‘different in its sheer breadth of emotion from any of Elgar’s other symphonic works’.
