Atavic Memory

22 Jan 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

see main text

The Spanish Contemporary Art Network (SCAN) presents the exhibition Atavic Memory, a collective show curated by Regina Perez Castillo and Sara Torres Sifón, focused on a selection of millennial artists and their current practice.

The pieces picked by this two curators carefully present a discourse that reflects on the dreams and desires of a society that is more and more urban every day, blinded by the needs and problems of living in a big city, far away from the natural environment, from our original home (The Earth), there arises in the community a longing and intense nostalgia to be in communion again with the original nature and its laws.

To look back at the original nature and the ideas, ways of life and materials of our ancestors leads to the emergence of an atavistic memory that takes us back to our historical predecessors and their way of understanding existence. Since the origins of art, artists have turned to nature, either to look for the supports and materials (earth, minerals, plants…) or because art has found in nature the most important source of inspiration for representation (ritual, sacred, symbolic, conceptual, among others).

The exhibition can be visited until February 15th. It includes works by Álvaro Albaladejo, Cristina Ramírez, Moreno & Grau, Alegría & Piñero and Fran Pérez Rus.
