Elvin Hall, Institute of Education, UCL London WC1E 6DE|
“El Enigma Agustina” is a film created by the Astrophysics Institute of Andalucía (IAA-CSIC) that explores new formats to communicate science to a non-expert audience. The film has recently received a Prisma Award 2019 for Best Singular Project. It follows the story of a PhD student that comes across a chest hidden in El Pardo Palace, in Madrid. Inside the chest, she finds a PhD thesis by an Agustina Ruiz Dupont, and letters from Marie Curie and Albert Einstein. In her quest for joining the dots and unveiling the identity of Agustina, she will travel through the Spanish Second Republic, the Golden Age of Physics in Europe, the first female researchers in Spain and the many artistic movements associated with these three historical moments.
The film screening will be followed by a discussion with the directors of the film, Emilio García and Manuel González.
This event has been kindly sponsored by the Science and Technology Spanish foundation (FECYT), University College London (UCL) and Instituto Cervantes London.
Attendance is free of charge, but previous registration is requested.
