De-Alienating the home is a three-phase programme organised as part of the Spatial Practices programme at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, examining notions around ecology, well-being, and domesticity in the public realm. The research developed in this programme aims to build a more humane and ecological understanding of the home, as an opportunity to collectively create a catalogue of spatial explorations in the public space, with a focus on health and well-being, sustainable development, and responsible consumption and production strategies.

De-Alienating the home includes a series of seminars, workshops, roundtables and a public art installation. Over this programme, organizers, participants and guest speakers will examine the role of the public space for building community engagement strategies, as well as how to respond to wider questions on climate change and health. The programme combines practical design workshops, lectures, and open round tables with guest speakers and it includes the following activities:

Phase 1: Intro + Concept Design

  • Practical design workshop (two sessions) led by Gonzalo Herrero and Pati Santos, Associate Lecturers, Central Saint Martins
  • Seminar (two sessions) on Ecological thinking in architecture (by Gonzalo Herrero) and Well-being in architecture (by Pati Santos)

Phase II: Design Development

  • Practical design workshop (three sessions) led by Gonzalo Herrero and Pati Santos, Associate Lecturers, Central Saint Martins
  • Open review roundtables (two sessions) with the participation of:
