IberoDocs is a film festival that strives to bring more attention not only to documentary but also to Ibero-American culture. As such, it aims to bring diversity and be ever so inclusive in our programmes. This year, the IberoDocs team will screen different kinds of films, not only docs but also short fiction films and a fiction feature.
The reason lies in the nature of documentary itself. As all arts and disciplines, cinema is constantly evolving so is documentary which is now opening to dialogue with fiction and animation but also with experimental film or, why not, poetry. For this reason, in this year’s programme IberoDocs is embracing different genres to bring you a bit more diversity without betraying our own identity.
This 6th edition will also be an edition of first times. The thing we’re most excited about is that we are bringing to Edinburgh a star artist from the Spanish music scene, Kiko Veneno one of the most important figures in the Spanish music scene. After 40 years of career and more than 14 albums released, Kiko Veneno will travel to Edinburgh specially for the 6th edition of IberoDocs.
As part of the Andalusian focus there will be seven films and featured three strands. The most important of these strands is the one called “Flamenco roots” including Camaron, Flamenco and Revolution and The Legend of Time, which is the first hybrid between fiction and documentary made in Spanish cinema. Another strand is “Dialogue About Spanish Transition” in which two films are dialoguing together, 23 Shots and The silence of Others. The Andalusian director of 23 shots, Jorge Laplace, will also be with us for a masterclass the day after the screening.
