Looking at Spanish Old Masters Today
6 Dec 2018 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm|
Nicola Jennings, director of the Colnaghi Foundation and, Michael Petry, Artist & Director at MoCA London, will be discussing the lasting influence of Spanish Old Masters in contemporary arts practice. This event is part of Spain NOW! – celebrating the 10th anniversary of the season of contemporary arts and culture in London.
The relevance of the Spanish Old Masters has not been confined to the Golden Age of painting in Spain. Its influences can still be seen in 20th and 21st-century practice, ranging from Francis Bacon’s reinterpretation of Velazquez’s work to new media and styles.
The event is part of the ongoing celebration of Spain NOW! 10th anniversary. For the last decade, the platform, directed by Antonio Molina, has been working on promoting the new ideas and works coming from Spanish creatives. Throughout the year, Spain NOW! will be promoting a set of activities focused on the internationalization of Spanish contemporary art, and this collaboration with the Colnaghi Foundation marks the beginning of this anniversary’s calendar.
