Maria Camahort’s summer concerts
8 Jul 2017 - 23 Aug 2017|
Spanish guitarist Maria Camahort will perform at various venues this summer both in the UK and Spain, presenting various projects that include Iberian Colours, a duo with Laura Ruhí-Vidal and a collaboration in the beautiful project Frost&Lorca:
Iberian Colours MCQ – 8 July 2017, 8pm
Steyning Music Society West Sussex BN44 3XZ
Maria Camahort, together with four other brilliant musicians, presents a concert of music by Spanish composers with a very original approach, sharing with the audience the vivid colours, earthy textures and rhythms of Spanish musical art. Iberian Colours explores the relationship between Spanish composers and influences from Iberia’s traditional music.
Maria Camahort Quintet was created with the aim to explore new possibilities in the field of chamber music. The originality of the ensemble is given by the intense collaboration between musicians from different musical traditions, by its characteristic timbre, and by the specific choice of classical repertoire and their adaptation to this particular quintet. These features provide great charisma and personality to this unique ensemble.
Laura Ruhí-Vidal & Maria Camahort – 9 July 2017, 3pm
Hot Numbers Cofffee Cambridge
Soprano Laura Ruhí-Vidal and guitarist Maria Camahort present a captivating programme with a wide range of Spanish composers: from Lorca, Granados and Falla, to Toldrà, Mompou, and Gerhard. This journey comprises passionate flavours from the Iberian Peninsula, exploring the touch of seductive love, revenge and sorrow, with some insights of the Catalan traditional songs.
Laura Ruhí-Vidal and Maria Camahort have been working together since 2011 in many different occasions. Their first collaboration was at the UK Premiere of composer Feliu Gasull at Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Other projects include the 2013 theatre production of Blood Wedding by F. García-Lorca (Silk Street Theatre, London), and the Maria Camahort Quintet, ensemble founded in November 2011 and that recently have launched the CD ‘Iberian Colours’ with Convivium Records International.
Their performances as a duo include The Forge Venue, The Cervantes Institute, the celebration of St George’s Day organised by Ramon Llull Institute (London), Girona Guitar Festival (Spain), Festival de Música Áureo Herrero (Ávila, Spain), amongst others.
Frost & Lorca – 17-23 August 2017
Gilded Balloon at the Museum (Venue 64), Edinburgh Fringe Festival
A unique fusion of art, poetry, projections, music and theatre. Celebrated British abstract artist Sir Terry Frost spent a decade creating work inspired by Federico Garcia Lorca, producing the beautiful Lorca portfolio: 11 poems in both Spanish and English each accompanied by an original etching by Frost (father of seasoned Fringe performer Stephen Frost). Another unique fusion of international performers and creatives have come together to bring this portfolio to life in the suitably grand setting of the National Museum of Scotland.
