Each year, the Oxford Literary Festival brings together leading authors and public figures in a magnificent setting in the central university area of Oxford, including internationally renown Spanish writers and scholars.

This edition, guests Javier Cercas, Vicente Luis Mora and Pepe Karmel will be participating in the festival Saturday 23 March as part of the following events.

12:00 – Javier Cercas talks to Boyd Tonkin: Life and Work. Exploring a difficult History

International-award-winning Spanish novelist Professor Javier Cercas talks about his life and work as one of a group of well-known writing in the genre of ‘historical memory’ focused on the Spanish Civil War and the Franco period.


16:00 – Vicente Luis Mora interviewed by A K Blakemore

Spanish writer and literary critic Vicente Luis Mora talks about his award-winning novel Centroeuropa, a story recently published in English for the first time that digs deep into Europe’s history.


16:00 – Looking at Picasso. Lecture given by Pepe Karmel 


Leading US art historian Professor Pepe Karmel marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso by drawing on a wealth of new scholarship to show how the greatest 20th-century artist transformed the traditional themes of western art.
