Pablo Urbina’s orchestra 5th Anniversary Gala Concert at Queen Elizabeth Hall

24 Jan 7:30 pm

Queen Elizabeth Hall

Join the Queen Elizabeth Hall for the culmination of our 5th Anniversary season in a very special gala concert.
The outstanding pianist Vitaly Pisarenko, winner of the renowned International Franz Liszt Piano competition in 2008, will perform Tchaikovsky’s mighty Piano Concerto No. 1.
The Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier Suite will be then performed. In his opera, Strauss imagined the world in Mozart’s time, a period that for him, in the years before the outbreak of WW1, seemed angelically innocent. The opera was so well received that special trains ran from Berlin to Dresden to bring audiences to its opening run, and this success prompted Strauss to make an orchestral suite from its music.

1. Chapí – El Tambor de Granaderos Overture
2. Tchaikovsky – Capriccio Italien *
3. Tchaikovsky – Piano Concerto No. 1
4. Emma-Kate Matthews – Construction 003:axial/regional (world premiere)
5. R. Strauss – Der Rosenkavalier Suite

• Pablo Urbina – Conductor
• Philip Keller – Guest Conductor*
• Vitaly Pisarenko – Piano Soloist
