SCAN (Spanish Contemporary Art Network) is pleased to announce the opening of CELESTE, a project by Solimán López.
CELESTE continues his investigation about the relation between the digital and the analogue, furthering the idea of digital art as an archive.
Nature has been a departure point and subject for artistic creation, from the Altamira cave paintings to Romanticism to Land Art. In the digital era, new perspectives and formalizations are necessary to explore the subject.
CELESTE questions the use of high technology for the purpose of constructing an alternative digital image of the sky, a synthesis of real-time processed data (Light, location, temperature). The result is an image that, while recalling the original content, becomes a digital proxy of its subject. Image becomes information, human perception of reality is replaced by computational RGB code.
Behind CELESTE lies the implicit question of the appropriateness of analogue methods to capture an ever more complex reality and how human technology shapes our needs.

SOLIMÁN LÓPEZ (Burgos, 1981, Spain), BA in Art history and Art and Communication Master, is a media artist, director of the department of I+D+i in ESAT (Escuela Superior de Arte y Tecnología de Valencia) and Harddiskmuseum founder.
His work and research is focus on Digital technology, from a technical and conceptual perspective, creating pieces of digital, interactive and media art as well as performance. He uses strong references to art history, and the social changes induced by the technological revolution and the new languages provided by these technologies.
His work has been shown internationally; Venezuela (I Bienal de Arte Emergente), Cuba (Festival de Camagüey), Nicaragua (CCE), Mexico (CCE), El Salvador (CCE), Argentina (MACBA – Buenos Aires, MAC – Bahía Blanca, Palacio Ferreyra – Córdoba, Timoteo Navarro – Tucumán), Sweden (SwitzerlandArtSpace), Pasadena and Chicaco (MIA Festival), Portugal (Au pie de la Montagne Show) or Greece (Create an Accident) and museums such as CAC of Málaga, IVAM of Valencia (Tecnometrías and Sustratos exhibition), Matadero Madrid, Museo Centro del Carmen (Valencia), Centro Cibeles (Madrid), I-CAS (Sevilla), Arts Santa Monica, Etopia: Center for Art and Technology or fairs sucha as ARCO Madrid, JustMad or ArtMadrid in Spain, or Point Ephémère and Mi*Galerie in Paris.
