The Love of Perlimplín and Belisa in the Garden by Federico García Lorca
Do not miss the last performance of the year at the Cervantes Theatre in the heart of London.
And what better author to close 2023 than Lorca and his tale of frustrated, doomed, and ultimately, tragic love, Don Perlimplín and Belisa in the Garden.
Directed by Paula Paz on a translation by Caridad Svich, each performance will be interpreted both in English and in Spanish, with two different casts and two different stagings. First half is in Spanish with English surtitles and the second half in English.
Written between 1922 and 1926 and premiered in1933, Lorca offers a tragic farce where the lyrical meets the grotesque.
Don Perlimplín, an elderly bachelor is lured into marrying his teenage neighbour Belisa, the latter unashamedley offered by her mother almost by force.
Chaos ensues on their wedding night when Belisa confesses her love for another man.
