¡Viva! Spanish & Latin American Festival 2020
6 Mar - 26 Mar|
As the UK’s biggest celebration of new Spanish and Latin American cinema, HOME’s ¡Viva! Festival returns this March for its 26th year, with a specially selected programme of the most exciting work from across the Spanish-speaking world.
The festival includes a packed programme of 31 feature films and 10 short films from Spain and Spanish-speaking Latin America, including 15 UK premieres. There’s also a series of special events for language learners.
Among the featured films, we can find La hija de un ladrón (A Thief’s Daughter), directed by the Goya award-winning Belén Funes, who will travel to Manchester for the Opening Night (Fri 6 Mar) to introduce the film and for the post-screening on Sat 7 Mar. The opening weekend also features Mientras dure la guerra (While at war), the historical film about the Spanish Civil War by Alejandro Amenábar, winner of 5 out 17 Goya awards nominations. Other films included in the programme are La Odisea de los giles (Heroic Losers), starring Ricardo Darín, the musical documentary Zaniki or El Sitio de Otto, by Oriol Puig.
The ¡Viva! film programme is curated by Rachel Hayward, Head of Film; Jessie Gibbs, ¡Viva! Festival Coordinator; and Andy Willis, Professor of Film Studies at the University of Salford and HOME’s Senior Visiting Curator: Film.
