DESCRIPTION:Francisco de Zurbarán\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n02 May – 23 Aug 2026 | National Gallery | London\nThe first major monographic exhibition in the UK devoted to Spanish 17th-century artist Francisco de Zurbarán (1598–1664)\, will open at the National Gallery next spring (2 May – 23 August 2026). \nAlong with Diego Velázquez (1599–1660) and Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (1617–1682)\, Zurbarán was one of the leading painters of 17th-century Spain. His paintings\, which include stunning life-size depictions of saints\, soaring altarpieces and contemplative still lifes\, are celebrated for their naturalism\, directness and deep emotional power. \nThis exhibition is the first dedicated presentation of the artist’s paintings at the National Gallery since 1994 when the series of ‘Jacob and his Twelve Sons’ from Auckland Castle was shown in the Sunley Room. Several works by Zurbarán also featured in the 2009-2010 exhibition\, The Sacred Made Real. \nThis exhibition of almost 50 paintings will span the chronological and iconographic breadth of the artist’s career.

DESCRIPTION:Mònica Planes @ Gasworks\n8 Apr – 23 Jun | Gasworks | Vauxhall\n\n\nMònica Planes’ work explores the relationships between bodies\, materials\, and architectural space. Understanding that sculpture has the capacity to both affect and be affected by its surroundings\, in her work\, she combines a moving body with fixed material structures. Often using diverse materials including concrete\, hay\, fat\, or coal\, she captures ephemeral gestures that reflect society and our surroundings. \nDuring her time at Gasworks\, Mònica will explore how collective performance can generate a sculptural frieze. She will visit Greek and Assyrian friezes at the British Museum to learn how these ancient panels construct visual narratives\, inviting viewers to “read” through movement. Until this moment\, her sculptural practice has emerged from individual actions\, so this project marks a significant shift towards the collective\, where bodies shape the material and dialogue defines the movement. \nMònica Planes (b.1992\, Barcelona) \nPlanes lives and works in Barcelona. \nRecent exhibitions include \nàngels Barcelona; \nFuocherello\, Turin; \nMACBA\, Barcelona (all 2025); \nLa Casa Encendida\, Madrid; \nMuseo Patio Herreriano\, Valladolid (both 2024); \nTenerife Espacio de las Artes; \nC3A Córdoba in collaboration with TBA21 (both 2023). \nShe was formerly a resident at the Spanish Academy in Rome\, and her work is included in collections including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía\, the National Collection – Generalitat de Catalunya\, and MACBA. \nMònica Planes’s residency is supported by Acción Cultural Española

Having trained across Basque Country\, London and Barcelona\, Ana’s work is grounded in emotional resonance\, positioning porcelain as both an archive and as a vessel of transformation. \nWith the environment and sustainability at the core of her practice\, Ana is committed to redefining the relationship between matter\, technology and care. Her London-based studio\, opened in 2014\, is recognised for its sustainable ethos and zero-plastic policy. Most recently her dedication has extended to a commission for the Spanish Embassy in London\, where she produced 119 sustainable light sculptures using only two moulds. \nAna has had previous collaborations with The National Trust\, Petersham Nurseries\, Alex Eagle and the Spanish Embassy and has been featured in publications such as The Independent\, The Guardian\, Elle Decoration and You Magazine. She has an MA in Parametric Design and Digital Fabrication\, an MA in Computational Arts from Goldsmiths\, and a BA in Fine Art from Basque Country University.

DESCRIPTION:Esther Gatón \nBitter Cornices @ Partial Versions\n11 Oct – 23 Nov | Cambridge | UK\nPartial Versions is delighted to present the first solo exhibition in the UK by Esther Gatón. \n \nSpanning sculpture\, video and painting\, Gatón’s practice is concerned with states of ambiguity and intensity; particularly their material\, spatial\, and socio-political effects. \nWorking with intuitive processes and unexpected materials (such as bioplastics\, phosphorescent paint\, and doll clay)\, the artist utilises artifice and ornamentation\, often alongside spatial intervention\, to construct unsettled objects and environments. \nFor Partial Versions\, Gatón turns her attention to the conventions of domestic space\, focusing on bookshelves\, cupboards and skirting boards across the ground floor of the building. \nThese discrete interventions shift and disrupt protocols of display\, concealment and maintenance throughout the space implicating the artist\, residents and visitors in a series of architectural and social transgressions. \nThe programme currently unfolds in a Victorian railway cottage in Cambridge\, UK. He borrowed from them to create his own public persona: Picasso\, the Artist. \nMarking the centenary of his famous painting The Three Dancers\, this exhibition\, staged by celebrated contemporary artist Wu Tsang and author and curator Enrique Fuenteblanca\, sheds new light on Picasso’s work. Together they will transform the exhibition space into a theatre for displaying over 45 works by Picasso from Tate’s collection\, alongside key European loans. These include paintings\, sculpture\, textile and works on paper\, some never seen in the UK before. \nThrough his persona\, Picasso cultivated a myth surrounding himself as both a celebrated artist and an outsider. DESCRIPTION:Román Lokati – A Mayeto from Rota in London\n11-19 July | Durning Library | London\nOpening Reception\, 6-8pm\, Wed 16 July \nThis exhibition is born from a deep desire to share a living memory: that of the Mayetos of Rota—men and women of the land\, whose weathered hands and inherited wisdom transformed the soil into sustenance\, culture\, and legacy. \nMayeteria\, the traditional method of planting unique to Rota\, is more than an agricultural technique—it is a way of being in the world. It reflects an intimate relationship with the land\, shaped by the rhythm of the seasons and a patient observation of nature. Tomatoes scented with sun\, onions that brought real tears\, peppers\, potatoes\, and pumpkins full of flavor. All cultivated with care\, using simple tools and a philosophy rooted in respect and resourcefulness. \nThe Mayetos\, Rota’s countryside workers\, were the keepers of this knowledge. With ingenuity and dedication\, they tended their corrales\, worked their plots\, and nourished their communities. This way of life forged a strong\, humble\, and resilient identity that still echoes in the collective memory of the town. \nBringing this story to London is not just an act of tribute—it is an invitation to dialogue. DESCRIPTION:The Spanish Keats\n15 June | Keats House | London\nAs part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Keats House opening to the public\, we are inviting you to explore the little-known Spanish Keats connections. \nFanny Keats\, the beloved younger sister of the poet\, married the Spanish writer and politician Valentín Llanos in 1826. He was in exile in London due to the restoration of absolutist king Ferdinand VII\, upon whose death the couple moved to Spain. \nValentín and Fanny lived first in Valladolid and then in Madrid until their deaths in 1886 and 1889 respectively. The couple is buried in Madrid’s San Isidro cemetery. \nFanny had taken memories and documents belonging to her dear brother with her to Spain\, which were eventually given to Keats House by Fanny’s descendants. \nRafael Peñas Cruz\, of Goat Star Books\, translator and publisher of Keats Now\, a bilingual English/Spanish anthology of the poet’s work\, will explore this Spanish Keats legacy and its contribution to the Keats House collection. \nThe event will be presented by Mr José María Robles\, Cultural Counsellor of the Spanish Embassy in London.

He first came to prominence in Madrid in the late-1950s as a founder member of the El Paso group amidst an era of conservatism\, social conformity and oppression under General Franco. \nThere\, in conjunction with other young artists such as Manolo Millares\, Antonio Saura\, and Manuel Rivera\, Canogar was responsible for creating a provocative and radically new\, gestural language of abstract painting that gave fierce\, visceral expression to a dynamic sense of energy and individual freedom and immediately established Canogar as one of the foremost pioneers of Informalist painting in Europe. Canogar’s work has\, over the last seventy years\, continued to evolve through a wide variety of different styles and media.

The artists have individually participated in numerous exhibitions\, art fairs\, and public art projects across many countries\, gaining recognition and acclaim in the Urban Art Scene. \nThe name of the show\, TRIEZE\, is hinting at the challenges independent artists face in participating in major art fairs and calls the art community to engage in a conversation about the role of urban art in today’s society. \n \nJay Kaes is a Spanish artist living and working in London\, his murals and paintings can be seen around the world. Kaes have been written about in the BBC news\, The Independent or Sky News. His art aims to inspire viewers to reflect on the concept of reality and embrace differences as aesthetic elements. \nSome talk about Jay Kaes as the originator of the “Glitch Pop Style” a unique reflection of how reality depends on the eyes that see it. \nThis blend of photo-realism\, comic elements\, and technology creates a mind-bending combination. One of his paintings is included in the public collection of Fundación Banco Santander. This October in Shoreditch\, Jay Kaes will show some of his works in preparation for his next solo exhibition in 2025 at Galería Juan Silió in Spain.

With artists Clara Hastrup\, Vibeke Mascini. \nThe exhibiton includes Spanish artist\, Inés Cámara Leret with her project La Trampa\, where she investigates a small common butterfly that has fallen into an evolutionary trap. Her approach is a constant balancing act between the past and the present. \n \n\n\nThe artists were invited to spend time in the house and develop new works in response to the titular theme\, the house and its existing spaces and objects – including electrical currents\, cleaning routines\, heating systems and the chain reactions that are generated. \nThe works presented in the house lead us to examine how the building itself\, and perhaps all buildings\, are composed of interconnected\, delicately balanced conditions – vulnerable to changing circumstances. \nThis exhibiton is an opportunity to question how people can ‘read’ and interact with the house\, and where they see the boundaries between technology\, historical narratives and nature.

Published by: Post-socialist Art Centre\, UCL Institute of Advanced Studies\, Department of History of Art) \nIn his talk\, Borja-Villel will discuss the need to develop alternative and “situated” forms of curatorial practice and institutional organisation. \nIt is easier to imagine an end to the world than an end to capitalism” is a quote attributed to both Fredric Jameson and Slavoj Žižek and made popular by Mark Fisher. \nFor centuries\, a linear and static idea of time and space has shaped Western thought dictating not only the rhythm and the term of history\, but also our agency over it. DESCRIPTION:Victoria Cano – “Through the Imprint”\n18 Jan – 8 Feb\n \nSpanish artist\, Victoria Cano is holding a solo exhibition in London\, “Through the Imprint” where she reflects on the role that art plays in the world as well as for human beings\, within the complexities of today’s society. \nShe does so with a series of imprints perceived in nature and dominated by what she denominates as “energies” – the colours red\, yellow\, blue\, green or violet\, both present in nature and in the human being\, and their interaction. \nTree trunks\, branches\, petals\, leaves\, furrows\, waves\, hearts\, the brain\, all feature in her work as a continuum\, for there are no limits to creativity in choosing shapes and colours to create and imagine spaces where the aesthetic of emotions is represented. \nContemporary pigments and materials merge with classic linen fabrics to create\, from the heart and the brain\, a space for reflection\, dialogue\, communication\, exchange of impressions\, and the love for art.

DESCRIPTION:SKETCHES\nBy Isabella Benshimol \nCurated by Mathilde Friis and Gonzalo Herrero\n(by appointment only)\nOpening reception on 9th January at 19.00h\nSpanish-Venezuelan artist Isabella Benshimol introduces her first solo show\, Sketches. A novel compilation of photographs taken daily by the artist with her phone between 2019 and 2023\, it is presented alongside a selection of sculptures. \n \nUndressing’s daily ritual – mostly carried out in the intimacy of her domestic space – becomes a performance documented here through the ‘sketches’ left by Benshimol‘s underwear\, casually scattered on the floor. \n \nThe abstractions of these intimate garments are presented decontextualised from her body. Site-specific\, Sketches takes place in an empty office space in central London – a sterile and predominantly male-dominated environment. \nIn Sketches\, ideas surrounding femininity and intimacy contrast with a sense of order\, raising questions about power dynamics between the domestic and the corporate spaces. \n
