Global Granados Marathon

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Spanish composer Enrique Granados, Guildhall pianists join with colleagues from around the world to play Granados’s complete works for piano in one day. Guildhall’s contribution is a complete performance of Granados’s transcriptions of 26 sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti, introduced by Professor Sir Barry Ife.
Organised by the International Festival of Spanish Keyboard Music (FIMTE), the aim of this event is to celebrate this year special anniversary of Enrique Granados’ birth and to bring attention to the composer’s vast piano solo repertoire –more than 200 works.
Granados’ complete piano solo works will be performed in 24 hours around the globe by different performers, including students and professional musicians. The event will be transmitted through video streaming via Youtube. After the event the archived videos will be available on FIMTE’s Youtube channel & website.
Founded in 2000 by Luisa Morales, the International Festival of Spanish Keyboard Music (FIMTE) is now internationally recognised as a leader in the field of Spanish Keyboard Music. Through a wide array of performances, scholarly and educational events, FIMTE has earned its place as a leading presentation venue for scholars and performers of Spanish keyboard music and has secured FIMTE’s reputation as one of the most important annual celebrations of Spanish music.
