International Piano Competition “Prize Jaen” celebrates in 2020 its 62 edition. The Prize is the oldest one in Spain (1953) and it has its roots in the old and extinted “Club Alpino”, a cultural-sporting society with a short existence.

The Competition is held annually in Jaen. It is divided into four rounds, including Chamber Music with the Bretón String Quartet and the Final with the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra in front of a thousand spectators.The organization provides free accommodation and travel grant to each participant who successfully passes the qualifying tests. €60.000 worth in prizes, concert tour around the world and recording CD on Naxos label for the winner.

The Prize has since 1993 a mandatory work written by a Spanish composer just for it, work that is paid by the “Centro de Difusión de la Música Contemporánea” from the Culture Ministry and which, since 1997, is edited and distributed by the “Diputación Provincial”. This year, the commisioned work is “Me arrodillo yo”, composed by Sebastián Mariné.

The Competition is open to pianists of any nationality, born after April 16. 1988, with the exception of those who have received the Prize “Jaén” previously. The deadline to apply is March 4.
