Ms. Murga is a Filipino-Spanish artist based in London whose roots can be traced from Zamboanga City.
Her exhibition ‘Liwanag: A Journey through the Philippines Way of Life’ is having a great success in the US.
Her debut in US was likewise featured at the Philippine Center in New York from 24 September to 11 October 2019. US-Philippines Society director Henry B. Howard, Pintô Museum’s Luca Parolari, art enthusiasts and members of the Filipino-American community in the tri-state area likewise attended the opening ceremony. Undoubtedly, it was a success.
Later, Sentro Rizal Washington DC, in cooperation with the US Philippines Society and with the support of Philippine Honorary Consul in Florida Henry B. Howard, hosted the opening reception of ‘Liwanag: A Journey through the Philippines Way of Life’, featuring the works of award-winning Filipina-Spanish artist Maria Mari Murga and Mindanao craft makers on 15 November 2019 at the Philippine Embassy Chancery Annex.
The Filipino-Spanish artist said that she used her skills to showcase the scenes and daily lives of the people and put them in the spotlight for the rest of the world to discover. She hopes that her art will serve as a reminder of how vibrant and beautiful the Philippines are. Her artworks used a beautiful selection of hand-carved frames from Zamboanga City.
